Germany sets solar electric world record while US sells Arctic for campaign donation

These two stories from this summer say it all:

Story 1: From Reuters: Germany generates world record solar production of 22 GW per hour - roughly the same power as 20 nuclear plants cranking at full capacity. 

Story 2: From the New York Times: The United States opens the Arctic to drilling.

Even if you don’t consider the environmental disasters that will unfold, tapping our last great oil reserve right now is a bad business plan.  You know why?  Because US oil and gas companies not only supply the US, but they also make huge amounts of money selling American fossil fuel overseas - and they’re subsidized by the US Government to do so!

Living in Colorado, this fact has become quite painful.  Right now gas companies are fracking our state to death without regulation and most of the profit is flowing out of the state to national and international corporations while most of the gas is sold out of the state as well.  Colorado and its citizens are left with toxic air and water - and a few landowners get some tiny royalties for the unregulated poisoning of our land.

They’ll sell Arctic oil to any buyer on the planet.  Arctic oil will be burned in Chinese cars, and Arctic profit will be gobbled up by multinational energy conglomerates.  Americans will be left with a trashed coastline and say “What happened to our oil?” just like we’re now saying, “What happened to our jobs?”

On the other side of the pond, another of the world’s great economies is telling a different story.  With Germany's record-breaking solar production on Saturday, May 27th, the country produced almost 50% of its total electricity needs with clean, safe, unlimited, solar energy. 

Long after the Arctic has been drained, the environment trashed, and the oil burned all over the world, those same solar panels (shown in photo) setting records in Germany will still be producing electricity in massive quantities.   

This summer, in part thanks to President Obama’s obsession with reelection above all else, oil companies will start exporting our last great oil reserve to line the pockets of campaign donors!  Clean, safe, renewable energy is already here, but the oil companies have our government by the balls; what there is of them...
